Fast is not always better. This is why some people choose to get a smoker instead of a grill. Smokers will slow cook your meat and help to hold its great natural flavor. Even though this smoker is large and in charge it would be a great addition to any back yard.
The Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker comes fully furnished with all the amenities. First off the size is amazing. Weber put not one but two cooking grates measuring 22 ½ inches in diameter. This is big enough to cook your turkey and your ham at the same time all while the hydration pan keeps the meats moist. Even better the cooking grates are nickel plated to lock in the flavors. Since it is a charcoal smoker it allows the chef to keep it authentic with the real smoker flavor.
The smoker is made out of porcelain enameled steel. The water pan keeps the moisture locked in the food. Thermometers to make sure you are keeping the right amount of heat are clearly visible and labeled. Between the vents on the bowl and lid it makes temperature control a cinch. There is a nylon heat resistant handle to keep the heat on the meat and off your hands. To top it all off there is a non-rust fuel door and a 10 year warranty.
What I like
I love the flavor of smoked meat. There is nothing like the taste of fall off the bone meat that only a smoker can provide. I have found it very hard to find a smoker that could feed my family as we are a family who loves to eat as much meat as we can fit in a freezer. I do not have this problem after purchasing this smoker. We can toss ribs, chickens, and sausages and let them bake for several hours. By the time everyone has had their full there is still meat to be had.
I love the moister tray it really adds another element to smoking. A lot of the smokers I have looked at in the past have not had this accessory available and the ones that did took away a lot of the smoker room so you could not fit as much meat on there. The build of Weber’s Smokey Mountain is a credit to mankind.
The heat resistant handle is a nice touch. The thermometer is great, very accurate. As anyone who has done a lot of smoking knows, temperature is very important to keep the moisture and tenderness to the meat. The 10 year warranty is just icing on the cake. It’s nice to not have to worry about my smoker for ten years. Any company that puts a ten year warranty on a product that is used out doors and holds high heat I will respect just on that basis. It is simple. If you use top quality materials you will have a top quality product. If your product is the top of the line of course you can give warranties.
Things I do not like
The Smokey Mountain Cooker is very similar to a lot of smokers on the market in one way unfortunate way. You really have to do some work to get this grill up and running. It can sometimes take two full bags of Kingston Bristcutes to get the correct heat and seal correctly the first grill session. Since a year plus later it does use a lot of charcoal for every use. It is worth it, but it still is a lot of it. However, the taste of smoked meat is well worth the time and effort.
